All visitors and Trails Club members are encouraged to enjoy the great Northwest outdoors by selecting a hike, bike ride or other event from this calendar. Gentle Reminders provides explanation of hike difficulty and hike guideline. Detail description of common meeting is available at Meeting Places.

Week-1

Feb 1-3 (Fri-Sun) Nesika Lodge Weekend

Nesika Lodge Weekend: Lodge will be open and warm from 1:00 PM on Friday through 10:00 AM on Sunday. Come on up to the lodge via Multnomah Falls or Wahkeena Trail. You are responcible for getting yourself to the the lodge. Bring your own food and be prepared to carry out your own garbage. We will try to lead a hike to summitt Larch Mountain on Saturday AM. 9 mile round trip. You will need snow shoes, instep crampons or Yak Tracks to come to the lodge. Do not attempt the hike without a traction device as the trail up Multnomah Creek is steep and usually has a coat of ice. Trekking poles would also be great. See you at Nesika.

Feb 1-3 (Fri-Sun) Tyee Lodge Open

Family friendly weekend in the snow. Tyee Lodge open from 6pm Friday until 3p.m. Sunday. Breakfast and dinner Sat. and breakfast Sunday will be provided. Gluten free options will be available Register with: Sheryl Wagner at 503-319-2989 or drwagnernd@yahoo.com

Feb 3 (Sun) Cross country ski trip, Class B

We will start at Government Camp, coast happily down the Crosstown Trail to the Glacier Sno Park area, then cross Highway 26 for the ups and downs back to complete the day’s loop. Total mileage will be 7-8 miles.
Depart: 9 AM Gateway Park & Ride. Please arrive at Gateway by 8:50 a.m. so we can leave by 9 AM.

Week-2

Feb 6 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B

We hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, usually in Forest Park, then lunch at a nearby cafe. If you would like to know the distance or difficulty of the hike, call the leader.
Depart: 9:30 AM from Wallace Park between NW 25th and 26th on NW Raleigh St.

Feb 9 (Sat) Cross country ski - class B

Ski from a snowpark near Government Camp, or from a higher snow park to avoid rain. We will ski 5 to 6 miles, with not more than 500 ft elevation gain. Leader will be staying Saturday night at cascadeskiclub.org ($30 for guests, see club FAQ). Other drivers may make it a day trip. Leader willing to drop/pickup passengers at Tyee lodge. round trip drive 100 miles.
Meet on east side at 8:00 AM (contact leader).

Feb 9 (Sat) Bennett Pass Area Snowshoe Tour - Class: Stiff A

Nice mix of off-trail and old logging road snowshoe travel through deep timber to the former White River Overlook lookout site. Views are limited. Suitable for beginners. NO COTTON. Vehicles will need to display a SnoPark permit. Note: Suggested carpool donation will be 15 cents per mile, per passenger. Snowshoe: About 5 miles w/ 1,000' (cumulative) elevation gain. Drive: 100 R/T miles
Depart: 8:30 w/ snowshoes from Gresham Village Shopping Center (south side of Burnside)

February 9-10 (Sat – Sun) Tyee Open

Looking for a place to get out of the cold? How about a weekend at Tyee? We’ll have it open by 11:00 am Saturday, in case your plans include lounging by the fire. There are two Trails Club trips on Saturday the 9th, a snowshoe near Bennett Pass and a cross country ski out of Government camp. If you’re doing either of those, or other outdoor activities, join us for dinner at 6:00 pm. After a delicious breakfast Sunday morning, you can work on a puzzle, check out the sledding hill, or finish that knitting project. If you’re still around, we’ll show you the door at 1:00 pm Sunday afternoon. Your hosts are Donna Aase and Merv Murphy.

Feb 16 (Sat) Mt. Hood Snowshoe to Lower Twin Lake - Class A

We will snowshoe 4 miles round trip at a leisurely pace from the Frog Lake sno-park (on Hwy 26) to Lower Twin Lake. Bring lunch to eat at the lake. Cars need a Snow park permit. No cotton clothes allowed. Check our Cold Weather Guideline for Trips on our Hiking page.
Depart: 8:30 AM from Gateway Park & Ride. Drive 116 miles round trip.

Feb 17 (Sun) Portland Zoo to Pittock Mansion Hike - Class A

Go along part of the forested Wildwood Trail. We will pass the Vietnam Veteran Memorial, get a glimpse of the Japanese Garden and walk through the Hoyt Arboretum. A view of Portland can be seen from Pittock Mansion. Hike 6 miles round trip with 800 feet of elevation gain.
Depart: 10:00 AM from the upper Portland Zoo parking lot near the World Forestry Center. From Highway 26 West (Sunset Hwy) take exit 72 at the Zoo sign. Please call leader for more complete directions if necessary.

Feb 17 (Sun) Government Camp Snowshoe - Class A

Snowshoe from Tyee Lodge around Government Camp area on Sunday afternoon for 4 miles. This is a Qualifying Membership Hike. Check our Cold Weather Guideline for Trips on our Hiking page.
Depart: at 1:15 PM From Tyee Lodge. Leader will be staying at Tyee Lodge, no carpooling available. We will return to Tyee Lodge for warmth of the fire and hot drinks.

Feb 16-18 (Sat-Mon) Tyee lodge Open - President’s Weekend

Come join our family friendly weekend at Tyee Lodge with snow outside. Lodge will be open by 11 AM on Saturday. Dinner will be served on Sat and Sun. Breakfast on Sun and Mon. Your Host/Cooks are Paul and Callista Snively.

Feb 18-20 (Mon-Wed) Tyee lodge Open - Host only

Tyee Lodge will be open between Monday and Wednesday. No Cook. Bring your own food.

Feb 20-22 (Wed-Fri) TCO & Cascade Prime Timers at Tyee

Two nights and three days at Tyee Lodge with Host Pete Nelson and Chief cook: Nancy Overpeck. Overnight Wednesday & Thursday February 20-21. Meals: Wednesday: Dinner, Thursday: Breakfast and dinner, Friday: Breakfast. Bring you own lunches. Cost: $50 ($40 for TCO members). BRING SLEEPING BAG, TOILETRIES, TOWEL AND WASHCLOTH.Plenty of X-country skiing right outside door. Bring snowshoes and or xcountry skis for a hike Wednesday and Thursday.
MEET 9:50 AM at Restroom on east side of Government Camp or meet at 10 AM on Timberline Road.

Feb 21 (Thur) Government Camp Snowshoe – Class A

Meet at Tyee Lodge and depart at 10 AM. Snowshoe in the Government Camp area. Return to Tyee for hot drinks around the fire. Carpool transportation from Portland not set up for this snowshoe since the leaders are staying at Tyee.

Feb 21 (Thu) Adventures & Travels: Backpacking in the Nat’l. Parks

Come join us as we listen to guest speaker Dave Bouchard share his stories and tips about backpacking in America’s National parks! Find out more about the kinds of things our Nat’l. Parks contain, and learn the essentials of what you need to know before going!

Feb 23 (Sat) Captain Clark Park Hike - Class A

This hike, on a good trail, is along the Columbia River and partly beside the Steigerwald Wildlife Refuge. We should see several species of birds. Come prepared for winter weather. About 6 miles on a level trial. Lunch under cover. It is about 16 miles from Gateway to the trail head.
Depart: 9 AM at Steamboat Landing Park near Washougal Wa. This park is 9.2 miles East of the 205 bridge on SR 14. The entrance is just past the traffic light on 15th St.
